Much like Maren Morris, country music star Brett Young didn’t find success going the reality signing completion route. Young auditioned a total of three times for the show and didn’t get called back. Eventually, the singer-songwriter was contacted after his third try.
“I got an email saying, you know, ‘We reviewed your tapes, and this season was kind of light, in terms of talent, and you can skip the audition process and move straight to the blinds, to TV. We would love for you to come be a part of the show,’” the hit-maker shared via his label, BMLG Records.
Brett accepted the offer and made his way back to Los Angeles, “I went and did the psych evaluation and everything in L.A. It was like less than a week before I left that I had my first meeting with Big Machine.”
This time around, it was Brett who pulled the plug on The Voice so he could pursue opportunities that had just opened up in Nashville. If things hadn’t started up when they did, Brett would have for sure been on the NBC show, “I would have done it, absolutely, and would have been so grateful for the opportunity.”
Things obviously worked out for the country music star with five consecutive number one songs and his sixth single, “Catch,” climbing the charts. He also married his longtime love, Taylor Mills Young, last year and the two are expecting a baby girl!
