The first-ever ACM Song of the Decade award has been given to Miranda Lambert along with "The House that Built Me" songwriters Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin!

Country music superstar Miranda Lambert along with “The House that Built Me” songwriters Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin are the first-ever recipients of the ACM Song of the Decade award! According to the official Academy of Country Music press release, the trio were presented with the honor backstage during the the 2019 ACM Honors ceremony in August.

This honor recognizes a song that has impacted the country music genre over the last decade. The factors considered include but are not limited to, success at radio, commercial media, sales/streaming, creative integrity, artistic merit, and ACM Award recognition.

“The Special Awards committee convened multiple times, put aside their professional interests and were diligent in considering the fullness of country music in arriving at these honors. This is not, however, the Academy of Country Music deciding who or what should be honored. This is simply our recognition of self-evident truth. ‘The House That Built Me’ is the Song of the Decade in country music. It is a monument unto itself,” explained Chuck Aly, Academy of Country Music Vice President and ACM Special Awards Committee Co-Chairman.

This additional honor brings Miranda Lambert’s total of career ACM award wins to 34, solidifying her place as the most-awarded artist in Academy history!

Other new ACM award categories include ACM Album of the Decade, ACM Artist-Songwriter of the Decade, ACM Breakout Artist of the Decade, ACM Single of the Decade, ACM Songwriter of the Decade, and ACM Music Event of the Decade. Winners in these categories will be announced over the next few weeks.

Congrats to Miranda Lambert, Tom Douglas, and Allen Shamblin on receiving the ACM Song of the Decade award! Share this news with other fans!

“The House that Built Me” Lyrics

I know they say you can’t go home again.
I just had to come back one last time.
Ma’am I know you don’t know me from Adam.
But these hand prints on the front steps are mine.
Up those stairs, in that little back bedroom
Is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar.
And I bet you didn’t know, under that live oak
My favorite dog is buried in the yard.
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here it’s like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me.
Mama cut out pictures of houses for years.
From ‘Better Homes and Garden’ magazines.
Plans were drawn, and concrete poured,
And nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mama’s dream.
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here it’s like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself.
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that built me.
You leave home, you move on and you do the best you can.
I got lost in this old world and forgot who I am.
I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
This brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here it’s like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself.
If I could walk around I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
From the house that, built me.
