Teenage Chris Young was clearly on his way to country music stardom. Watch him perform "Because of You" in this throwback video clip!

Before hitting country music stardom, Chris Young was just a kid with a remarkable voice growing up in Tennessee. Watch teenage Chris– complete with a curly mop of hair and puka shell necklace— sing “Because of You,” a song written by Teresa Wade and Charlie Craig, below!

Wow. Chris had some serious pipes as a teen!

Just a few years later this young man would go on to audition for the televised country music singing competition Nashville Star. In March 2006, country music fans nationwide were first introduced to the aspiring singer when he appeared on the fourth season of the USA Network’s program. The Tennessean ultimately won his season of the show, beating out Casey Rivers and Nicole Jamrose, which earned him a contract with RCA Records Nashville.

Later that year, Young released his debut single “Drinkin’ Me Lonely,” which peaked at number 42 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and served as the first single off of his self-titled debut album. The record’s second single, “You’re Gonna Love Me,” peaked at number 48 on the chart.

It’s amazing to look back at the start of his career and where he is today— a newly minted Grand Ole Opry member currently on a headlining tour with Kane BrownMorgan Evans, and Dee Jay Silver as special guests. Check out his tour dates and stops below!
