Lauren Akins' dad gave country music star Thomas Rhett the push he needed to tell his longtime friend how he really felt. More on their love story, here!

Believe it or not, Lauren Akins’ dad played a major role in country music artist Thomas Rhett confessing his true feelings for his childhood friend.

In a new interview with Hits Daily Double, the Georgia native opened up about the early days of his romance with Lauren and confessed that he needed a ‘push’ to make things happen. “There was always something different about Lauren, and we both felt it, but we never figured it out,” he admitted. “We were dating other people. In another world, we might have married them.”

Everything changed when he attend Lauren’s sister’s graduation. Lauren Akins’ dad confronted the singer-songwriter and gave him an ultimatum. “I’d loved that girl since high school, and I told her father how I felt. He said, ‘If you don’t tell her, I’m going to.'”

Rhett took his words to heart and finally told Lauren about how he felt and that he wanted a relationship. “It was a total Ryan Gosling moment. I said to her, ‘I just want to kiss you one time. If you don’t feel anything, we can go back to being friends,'” he shared. “I’ve learned this: It’s wise to confront things instead of holding them in. That creates resistance instead of resolution.”

Obviously, things really worked out for this couple and the wed on October 12, 2012! They have built a beautiful life together and now have two daughters, Willa Gray and Ada James.

We can all thank Lauren Akins’ dad for playing a tough-love cupid! ;) Share this with other fans of the couple!
