Besides creating hit songs, country music star Thomas Rhett is widely known for being a family man. Married to his childhood sweetheart, Lauren Akins, the couple are proud parents of two precious daughters, Willa Gray and Ada James. Willa officially joined the family at home in May 2017 and Ada was born shortly after in August!
Thomas and Lauren would have never met Willa and gone through the international process had Lauren not gotten involved with humanitarian work in Uganda. In an interview with Pickler & Ben, Lauren sat down and gave the inside scoop on her journey to becoming the mother of two daughters.

“She [a college friend’s aunt] talked me into going to Haiti. I never met her, never been out of the country really before so I went and it just… I don’t know, it just got in my blood or something. It just became something that I was not willing to let go. It’s been awesome,” said Lauren of her first mission trip experience.
Not only has she been involved with mission work, she has gotten Thomas Rhett on board with it too! Interestingly enough, it was Thomas who suggested that they go through the adoption process when he saw how Lauren and Willa connected.
Lauren met the little cutie when she was only five-months-old and just knew she needed to get this little girl a home! She FaceTime called her husband that night saying that they needed to reach out to their friends who were looking to adopt when Thomas Rhett brought a whole new family into the process— themselves!
“Without even blinking he was the one who was like, ‘We’ll do it. We’ll bring her home,'” Lauren recalled about the call that would forever changed their lives.
Lauren and Thomas Rhett’s journey to becoming parents is just so inspiring! We look forward to watching this family grow. Share this update with other fans.
