Brandon Blackstock and Kelly Clarkson's son Remy has been through a lot in just four years of life! More on the little one here.

Kelly Clarkson recently got very candid about her 4-year-old son Remington Alexander‘s speech and hearing issues. Kelly and her husband Brandon Blackstock initially thought he could have a serious hearing impairment. More on Kelly Clarkson’s son below!

“He had a speech problem because he had this ear problem when he was a baby. We didn’t know,” Clarkson explained to PEOPLE. “But way deep down in his ears, he got clogged up with a ton of wax where we thought, almost, he was deaf because he spoke as if he was underwater.”

Fortunately the family found the cause of the problem and are currently working with Remy through speech therapy.

“We found [out] it was something simple, but it pushed him back almost nine months,” the star added. “So we’ve been working really hard with his speech and he’s still doing his speech therapist via Zoom.”

“The big milestone for us is Remy getting to really find out his own personality and his identity, because it’s been frustrating for him to not be able to really vocalize his emotion,” she continued. “It’s a really important thing and it’s very frustrating for them and us because we can’t communicate all the time. The fact that he’s making full sentences now and full-on engaging with us is really a blessing.”

The Clarkson-Blackstock family have been self-isolating at their Montana ranch. We’re rooting for Brandon Blackstock and Kelly Clarkson’s son as he overcomes obstacles! Go, Remy!

Kelly Clarkson (in collaboration with Deaf West Theatre) “I Dare You” ASL Version

“I Dare You” Lyrics

There’s a wolf that preys on a world
That strays so far from the Garden (oh)
And just like your own
Every heart you know seems cold and hardened (oh)
You may not have the stage, but you still have a voice
You may not have the strength, but if you have a choice
I dare you to love
Oh, I dare you to love
Even if you’re hurt and you can only see the worst
Even if you think it’s not enough
Oh, I dare you to love
We’re all full of hope, tryna stay afloat, tryna save one another
People let you drown ’cause they don’t know how to stay above water
When they’re too broken to know what they’ve put you through
Do the only thing that you’d want done to you
Oh, I dare you to love (dare you to love)
Oh, I dare you to love (I dare you to love)
Even if you’re hurt and you can only see the worst (oh)
Even if you think it’s not enough
Oh, I dare you to love
I dare you to love, oh
You may not have the stage, but you still have a voice
You may not have the strength, but if you have a choice
I dare you to love, even if you can’t
No, I dare you to love
Oh, even if you’re hurt
And you can only see the worst (only see the worst)
Even if you think it’s not enough
Oh, I, I dare you
I dare you
Oh, I, I dare you to love
