Country music hit-maker George Strait has another accomplishment to add to his list, being named the 2018 'Texan of the Year.' More here!

On March 23rd, country music legend George Strait received the 2018 Texan of the Year honor from the Texas Legislative Conference during a ceremony held at the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce. This honor certainly adds a Lone Star State-sized accomplishment to the star’s long list of achievements.

Besides cranking out hit songs over the decades, the entertainer stepped up big time to help Texas recover from the devastating impact of Hurricane Harvey. Through his Hand in Hand benefit concert, Strait raised more than $22 million dollars to aid in hurricane recovery efforts.

“I’m so proud to have grown up in the great state of Texas and so proud to be here today to accept this unbelievable honor,” George stated while accepting the distinction. “Texas is a big place filled with amazingly talented, smart people. How’d I end up here? Last year was a tough one for our great state. We’re still continuing to recover and with the help of the many loyal, kindhearted Texans, we will get these communities back on their feet again. It’s never surprising, but always amazing how in times of need, how generous the American people can be. I’ve had a great career and always been supported by the people here in Texas. This great honor is the tip-top of my list.”

Congrats to the “King of Country” on snagging another well-deserved honor! In celebration of this event, let’s rewind and enjoy a George Strait song inspired by a Texas town— “Amarillo by Morning.”

Enjoy the 1983 hit song below!

“Amarillo by Morning” Lyrics

Amarillo by mornin’
Up from San Antone
Everything that I got
Is just what I’ve got on
When that sun is high in that Texas sky
I’ll be buckin’ at the county fair
Amarillo by mornin’
Amarillo, I’ll be there
They took my saddle in Houston
Broke my leg in Santa Fe
Lost my wife and a girlfriend
Somewhere along the way
But I’ll be lookin’ for 8 when they pull that gate
And I hope that judge ain’t blind
Amarillo by mornin’
Amarillo’s on my mind
Amarillo by mornin’
Up from San Antone
Everything that I got
Is just what I’ve got on
I ain’t got a dime but what I got is mine
I ain’t rich but Lord I’m free
Amarillo by mornin’
Amarillo’s where I’ll be
Amarillo by mornin’
Amarillo’s where I’ll be
