Rising country star Brett Young almost took his talents to 'The Voice' to jump-start his career. Read more about Young's journey here!

Growing up, Brett Young was always expected to become a professional baseball player. After graduating high school, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays drafted the California native, but Young decided to accept a baseball scholarship from Ole Miss instead. Then, while playing baseball in Fresno, Young suffered a career ending injury. So, Brett Young packed his bags and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a country music career. Upon arrival in the Volunteer State, Young received an offer to sing on NBC’s reality competition show ‘The Voice.’ However, a conversation with a friend in the industry steered Young away from the incredible opportunity.

“I got together with Enzo [Lee Brice’s manager] for drinks and told him what was going on, and he said, ‘I don’t think you should go.’ I said, ‘Hold on,’ and I walked outside and I called [the ‘Voice’ production] and let ’em know I couldn’t make it. I came back in, and he kind of freaked out, because he felt he had made that decision for me, and what if it was the wrong decision? That was the scariest piece of advice I ever got,” Young recalled in a recent interview with Variety.

Although everything turned out just fine for Brett Young, sometimes he still wonders what might have happened had he competed on ‘The Voice.’ At the end of the day, Young still believes he made the right decision.

“It’s an interesting thing how that’s absolutely catapulted the career of all those judges. Blake was already killing it as an artist, but now he’s not just an artist, he’s a famous television personality, and the same with Adam. But as a contestant, you win the show, and then what happens after that? For the most part, that quick a rise makes everybody feel like the first song better be a smash, or else there’ll be that quick a demise. Yeah, there is that ‘what if’ thing, but obviously we’re all feeling very blessed and fortunate we chose what we did,” Young continued.

Brett Young is currently serving as an opening act on Thomas Rhett’s Life Changes TourΒ and recently got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Taylor Mills. Check out his official website for tour dates and information!
