Since being diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 5 years old, Sammy Hodgett, now 8 years old, has won his battle with cancer. To celebrate, his favorite country singer Blake Shelton invited him out to attend a show!
Last December, Shelton heard that one of his fans in Illinois just beat all odds and is now a cancer survivor. He thought there was no better way to honor the young boy’s big victory, so he promised to send Hodgett to one of his concerts. Just a few months later, Hodgett was a VIP concertgoer during Shelton’s tour.
Shelton showed love and compassion, just like any country boy, and Hodgett was all smiles. Check out this video from when the young cancer survivor met his favorite artist!
Hodgett’s family admires Shelton for the kindness he showed towards Sammy during this tough, but victorious point in his life. They were very grateful for the opportunity Shelton gave to make Sammy’s dreams come true, adding that he has been so happy since the show.
“It is difficult to find the words to express how thankful we are for everything that you have done,” Hodgett’s father wrote to Shelton in a letter sent to CMT. “Sammy has been smiling non-stop ever since the concert last weekend. Every morning he asks if we get to go see Blake again today.”
The young boy will have a memory that will last forever. Shelton helped Hodgett throughout his whole process in fighting cancer. Whether it was the time spent going through chemo, or the time spent celebrating life’s previous moments after beating the cancer, Hodgett listened to Shelton’s music.
“You have made a huge impact in his life,” Hodgett’s father also said in the letter. “It is wonderful to have something so amazingly good happen to him after the extremely long and difficult road he has traveled over the past three years.”
He and his wife were also excited when they found out their son was personally invited to a Blake Shelton concert with his family.
“The meet-and-greet, backstage tour and floor seats were a once-in-a-lifetime moment for all of us. It was some much-needed relaxing family time,” Hodgett’s father added. “It was the first time since his diagnosis that we were able to concentrate on being together, having fun and listening to great music, instead of the doctor appointments, hospital stays and chemotherapy sessions that have become our new normal.”
Way to go, Sammy— enjoy being cancer-free! Share this heartwarming update with other country music fans!
