Up and coming country artist Chance McKinney is spearheading the industrialized country movement. If you’re wondering what that is, take a listen to any of his iTunes charting projects. Coming from a Motown background, you can catch glimpses of soul mixed with classic country.
A former math teacher, McKinney’s music career hit the ground running after he submitted a song to CMT’s Music City Madness competition and won the nationwide contest. Ever since that day, he’s been touring with some of the top artists in country music including Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, and more.
His most recent EP, I Squared, showcases McKinney’s best work to date. His fans agree, considering the EP debuted in the Top 15 on the iTunes Country Album Chart. The breakout country act gave us an inside look at one of our favorites off the EP, “Backyard.”
“We’d play ‘Backyard’ and just watch people light up. Most women hear the perfect date night song and most guys hear a backyard party. What’s cool is that everyone takes what they want from the song. As long as it evokes good memories and inspires better ones yet to come, it’s doing what it was intended to do,” McKinney tells us.
