The Riley Thompson Jolene performance was a hit with the judges and fans on American Idol.  Jolene was written and made famous by Country legend Dolly Parton and Riley delivers a beautiful and innocent rendition of the tune.  Thompson is a sophomore at Mabank High School and is the youngest top 20 contestant at just 16 years old.  Riley moved to the next round of the competition after making it into the Top 20 on Sunday. She performed Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart”.  Both Riley and Miranda Lambert are East Texas natives.  Luke Bryan dubbed Riley as “Americas Sweetheart” and Katy Perry amended the title to “Americas Country’s Sweetheart”.

Riley stays busy as an active member of the Mabank High School cheerleading squad while serving as a talented singer, songwriter, and guitar player.  She has dreams of being a country music star and her performance on American Idol so far has her well on the way to achieving her dream.

Riley Thompson Jolene (American Idol 2019 Top 20 Solos)

Jolene Lyrics

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can

Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green

Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
There’s nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, Jolene

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don’t know what he means to me, Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He’s the only one for me, Jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, Jolene

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don’t take him even though you can

Jolene, Jolene
