Miranda Lambert's charity donates funds to the Lindale, Texas Police department after they lost their police dog in a shooting.

MuttNation, Miranda Lambert‘s charity that has helped rescue thousands of animals from kill-shelters and other dismal situations, has set up a fund for a K-9 officer named Ogar, a Lindale, Texas police dog who was killed in the line of duty on January 19, 2016.

Lambert cited on her Facebook that she had a personal connection with the incident because her father served in law enforcement for over 30 years.

This hits close to home. My dad served in law enforcement for over 30 years. Please visit MuttNation Foundation’s…

Ogar was only two-years old but had been involved with over 40 drug-related apprehensions. When he was killed, he was in pursuit of a suspect that entered the woods attempting to evade arrest. Ogar’s handler Officer Kevin Petty made the devastating discovery of Ogar’s body. The suspect was captured and charged with evading arrest and drug charges.

The 2 ½ year old Belgian Malinois, served with Smith County Precinct 5 for 1 ½ years and was certified in Search and Rescue, Narcotics and Attack and Protection.

Police Constable Kenneth Bibby told CBS19 News what Ogar meant to the department.

“Ogar wasn’t just a tool of ours, he was a friend and a buddy as well as a protector” Bibby said. In the video below you can see the memorial service for Ogar:

Lambert’s MuttNation heard about the costs of replacing a police dog and decided they wanted to help. They are now raising funds to purchase another K9 officer to replace Ogar. You can visit the link HERE to help with the campaign.

Lambert’s MuttNation continues to help needy animals on a daily basis. Lambert feels very strongly about the cause. Recently the foundation rescued an adorable bunch of puppies from a kill-shelter.

It’s puppy love!!! Yesterday we rescued more puppies from a kill shelter!!!! Oh how we love using our Rescue Rig to save these little angels!!
