Joey Feek Children Provide Comfort

As country music fans know, dynamic country music duo Joey + Rory’s Joey Feek has been bravely fighting the dismal impact of aggressive cervical cancer since being diagnosed in June 2014. After receiving top-notch medical care and opting for surgery, the cancer was still able to spread into her colon and Joey along with her husband and musical counterpart, Rory, chose to stop treatment altogether.

The inspiring 40-year-old singer is currently receiving palliative hospice care at her family’s home in Alexandria, Indiana. This special care is helping relieve some of Joey’s pain and its goal is to improve quality of life for both the ailing musician and her loving family.

Joey’s husband since 2002, Rory, has been faithfully keeping fans in the loop via his This Life I Live blog. Honestly, you can feel their intense and pure love through his prose and family photos. It’s both heartbreaking and inspiring. The official Joey and Rory Facebook Page is also rich with updates on Joey and gives us an intimate glimpse into the family’s life.

Joey and Rory’s almost 2-year-old daughter Indiana has proven to be a little ray of sunshine during this extremely difficult time. Joey’s stepdaughters Heidi and Hopie have also been a great support system for Joey. The bond between Joey and her three girls is simply lovely and incredibly deep.

Rory, 49, shared the following in his touching Four Rings and a Baby post:

“The girls drove up here from Nashville yesterday to see Joey and spend time with her, and to spend time with their baby sister Indiana… Joey got up from her bed and stepped through the back screen-door and found a spot between the girls on her mama’s porch swing. And she held their hands in hers and talked with them. She told them how much she loved them, and how proud she is of them. And how proud she is to be their mother. And then she talked with them about the one thing that she didn’t think she would ever have to talk with them about: Leaving them. And then she told them of the day when they’ll be together again in Heaven.”

Despite their hardships, the Feek family has kept up a healthy sense of humor and remain positive in the face of struggle. The family enjoys a network of truly incredible friends, neighbors, and fans. That unwavering support is truly a blessing.

UPDATE:

In December, Joey + Rory got the thrilling news that they had been nominated for a Grammy in the ‘Best Country Duo / Group Performance’ category for their rendition of “If I Needed You.” The talented husband and wife duo are up against the Brothers Osborne; Charles Kelley, Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay; Little Big Town; and Blake Shelton and Ashley Monroe in the category.

Unable to attend the ceremony, Rory Feek revealed that daughters Heidi and Hopie, along with manager Aaron, traveled to Los Angeles to represent the musicians at the GRAMMYs. Sadly, the duo did not receive the honor— Little Big Town won for their performance of “Girl Crush.” Instead of being surrounded by glitz and glamour, Joey and Rory watched the awards program with their daughter Indiana and Joey’s close family members from the comfort of her room. We hope the couple enjoyed their night despite the results!
