Brenda Lee aka “Little Miss Dynamite” was the ultimate superstar in the late 1950s and early 1960s— charting songs in genres such as country, pop, rock, and gospel.
Songs recorded by Lee such as “I’m Sorry,” and “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” have lasted generations.
Despite being a short woman (only 4’9″), Brenda had a big, big voice. Watch Brenda perform Creedence Clearwater Revival’s hit song “Proud Mary” on The Johnny Cash Show in 1970 below.
Even though Brenda Lee was only 25-years-old during this performance, She had already been a star for over a decade. It was after her successes in the early 1960s that Brenda returned to her country roots, beginning in the early 1970s.
Perhaps being a guest on a television show hosted by one of the biggest country artists of all time prompted that move! The Johnny Cash Show ran from 1969 to1971 and featured a variety of famous musicians over the course of 58 episodes.
