The Zac Brown Someone I Used to Know song was released in 2018. Zac Brown Band’s “Someone I Used To Know” music video highlights Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and carries a thought-provoking message.
The video opens with a brief, but graphic, sex scene (don’t say we didn’t warn you) and then moves into the story of a football player who later becomes a soldier in the U.S. Army only to go to war and come back changed. The life of a soldier can be a difficult one and Zac Brown Bad doesn’t romanticize it in the slightest, rather, is realistic with the difficulties individuals may face.
The music video concludes with a community coming together to support one another and Zac saying, “‘Someone I Used to Know’ is a touch point to remind people that they don’t have to be alone in what they feel. Pain and depression doesn’t discriminate; this song is me facing that part of myself of where I want to go and not where I’ve been.”

Zac Brown Someone I Used to Know Lyrics
Hometown hero at the bar
Burned out high life super star,
you know
Kept a buzz to fill the hole
Loved the lights and stole the show
Someone I used to know
Would stay another round
Someone I used to know
Ran himself in the ground
It’s been a long time comin’
Couldn’t keep on runnin’
Had to hit rock bottom to know
When you keep on losin’
with the path you’re choosin’
and it’s time to let go
of someone that I used to know
Know, know
Someone that I used to know
Rides the high that tears him down
Hates himself and loves the crowd
The king of fools a heavy crown
He didn’t know he almost drowned
Someone I used to know
Would stay another round
Someone I used to know
Ran himself in the ground
It’s been a long time comin’
Couldn’t keep on runnin’
Had to hit rock bottom to know
When you keep on losin’
with the path you’re choosin’
and it’s time to let go
of someone that I used to know
Know, know
Know, know
It’s been a long time comin’
Couldn’t keep on runnin’
Had to hit rock bottom to know
When you keep on losin’
with the path you’re choosin’
and it’s time to let go
of someone that I used to
someone that I used to
