In a concert last Saturday (April 23), husband and wife duo Chris and Morgane Stapleton stunned the audience with an emotionally-charged cover of the late Merle Haggard’s “Silver Wings”.
“Silver Wings” is from Haggard’s 1969 live album Okie from Muskogee and was written by Merle Haggard himself. The song is a classic dance hall balled that talks about someone having to leave their love on the silver wings of an airplane.
Because of the subject matter, watching Chris and Morgane Stapleton cover the song makes for a very believable and stirring performance. Not to mention that the duo’s voices blend perfectly together to make this cover one of the most beautiful tributes to Merle Haggard and his music out there!

Check out the lyrics to “Silver Wings”
Silver wings shining in the sunlight
Roaring engines headed somewhere in flight
They’re taking you away, leaving me lonely
Silver wings slowly fading out of sight
“Don’t leave me,” I cry
Don’t take that airplane ride
But you locked me out of your mind
Left me standing here behind
Silver wings shining in the sunlight
Roaring engines headed somewhere in flight
They’re taking you away, leaving me lonely
Silver wings slowly fading out of sight
Silver wings shining in the sunlight
Roaring engines headed somewhere in flight
They’re taking you away, leaving me lonely
Silver wings slowly fading out of sight
Slowly fading out of sight
