We think Gregg Allman would approve of Eric Church's take on the classic "Midnight Rider." Enjoy Eric's version right here!
Just hours after news of Gregg Allman’s death broke, country music superstar Eric Church paid tribute to the beloved 69-year-old southern rock pioneer at his Nashville concert on Saturday night by performing “Midnight Rider.”
Enjoy Church and his band’s stunning cover below!
The following message was posted to Allman’s official website:
“It is with deep sadness we announce that Gregg Allman, a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, passed away peacefully at his home in Savannah, Georgia. Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years. During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times.”
The sold-out show marked the end of Church’s Holdin’ My Own Tour and also broke the Bridgestone Arena’s all time attendance record. According to The Tennessean, 19,020 fans were on hand to watch the Chief take the stage.
“Last night, we set the attendance record in this building,” Eric shared with his amped up audience. “Tonight, we broke the son of a b—-!”
In celebration, Church treated the crowd to some extra tunes and played for nearly four hours.
“We’ll play more music tonight than any show on this entire tour,” he proclaimed. “Here’s what this is for me: I’ve got nowhere else to go for months, so what happens tonight, I’m gonna give it everything I’ve got…If you’ll just meet us halfway, this will be the best show here, ever.”
He certainly delivered on his promise! Fortunately Church does have some shows planned for the remainder of 2017.
