Country music artist Walker Hayes and his wife Laney are reeling from the loss of their seventh child on June 6th. The artist issued the following message sharing the couple’s devastating loss with fans: “It is with great sadness that Laney and I share with you the news that our sweet Oakleigh Klover Hayes was born this morning at the hospital and now is safely in heaven. Thank you for honoring our privacy as we grieve.”
Needless to say, Walker has cancelled a series of appearances to be home with Laney and their children.
On Tuesday, the longtime couple marked their 14th wedding anniversary. The singer-songwriter shared a heartfelt message to his love on their special day along with a candid snapshot of his wife curled up and smiling in a double stroller.
“I love this picture of Laney the most…I hope all of our kids find someone they could stare at forever…and feel like I do when I look at this. Happy 14th anniversary to us,” Hayes commented.
Our hearts go out to the Hayes family as they grieve. No word yet on when Walker will return to performing.
In April, the star’s “You Broke Up With Me” was certified Platinum by the RIAA.
“I’m so humbled and excited to get my first Platinum plaque,” Hayes said upon receiving the plaque during a stop on Kelsea Ballerini’s Unapologetically Tour. “This is because of people like you who are open minded and love my music that doesn’t really fit in a box. This has been a long journey and I’m finally making the music that is true to me, so thank you for listening and buying and showing up.”
In conjunction with his latest single, “Craig,” the artist has also recently established The Be A Craig Fund as a tribute to the man named Craig whose kindness and generosity helped Walker and his family during one of their toughest times. The Fund aims to empower and encourage others to seek out opportunities to help those who need it and reflect the same kindness Walker received. Fans will be able to submit a story of someone they would like to “be a Craig” for, buy a BeACraig t-shirt with all proceeds going to the fund, or can make a simple donation. Several of the stories submitted will be chosen along the way and profits from fundraising will be used to aide those special people just looking for a little help.
