Trisha Yearwood is poised to release her first solo country album in 12 years. Check out the record's lead single, "Every Girl In This Town," here!

It seems like an eternity since Trisha Yearwood has released a new country record. After all, her most recent country studio album, Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love, debuted in 2007. Of course this does not include her 2018 album, Let’s Be Frank, honoring the late Frank Sinatra with covers of his most notable tracks. At first, making a return to the world of record making scared the country singer. “I wasn’t sure if I’d ever find songs that really felt like me,” Yearwood tells The Boot. “because country music has changed a lot since I made a record.” With songs like “Every Girl In This Town,” Yearwood found music that spoke to her.

“Making this album reminded me of making my first album in 1991 — a freeing feeling of just getting to be creative and not worrying about anything beyond just take care of the music, find the right songs and having fun in the studio. No pressure,” Yearwood shared with PEOPLE. “When I listen to the album, I hear the joy in my voice. It’s a great feeling to know you’ve done your best. Now, I float it out to the world. This is me!”

The album’s lead single, “Every Girl In This Town,” reminds Yearwood of simpler times growing up in small-town Georgia. “It’s really one of the first things I heard when I was listening for songs for this record, and I think I instantly fell in love with it,” Yearwood told iHeartRadio. Sometimes songs grow on you, but sometimes you just hear a song and go, “Oh my gosh, I want to sing that.’ I felt like I was that little girl. It starts off talking about how every little girl has this big dream and how we’re all kind of in this together and we’re just trying to figure it out. That doesn’t change as you become older. I’m a 54-year-old little girl now and we’re always trying to figure it out. It’s a girl anthem that gives you permission to be yourself, and it just made me feel good and I wanted to sing it.”

Song Lyrics

Every girl in this town’s felt the wind in her hair
From the ferris wheel spinnin’ at the county fair
Looked out from the top and wondered
What’s out there for me

Every girl in this town’s had a Friday night
That ended in tears in the yellow porch light
Thinkin’ it was love but it was just seventeen

And we dance and we laugh till we all fall down
We keep kissin’ boys tryin’ to figure it out
Stretchin’ for stars on our tip toe hearts
Tryin’ to get our big dreams off the ground
Like every girl in this town

Every girl in this town is somebody’s daughter
An angel, a devil, no matter what they call her
If they try to hold you down under that water
Just come up baptized baby, let it make you stronger

Every girl in this town
Every girl in this town
Yeah, dust yourself off
Put your lipstick on
You got this baby
So what if you don’t

And we dance and we laugh till we all fall down
We keep kissin’ boys tryin’ to figure it out
Stretchin’ for stars on our tip toe hearts
Tryin’ to get our big dreams off the ground
Like every girl in this town
Like every girl in this town

(Every girl in this town)
Every girl in this town
(Every girl in this town, every girl)
Every girl, every girl in this town
