After a trying past couple of years, Trace Adkins is ready to shine in soon to-be-released new album.
We always love seeing a great country music singer getting back in the game. Trace Adkins is set to release a new album to follow 2013’s Love Will…, the new album is set to release in 2016 with the first single “Jesus and Jones” set to hit radio in January.
This new project follows a rough couple of years for Adkins, which will be reflected in the songwriting.
“That’s where I am,” Adkins says in reference to the lead-off single “Jesus and Jones”.
“I’ve always been in that place. I started out singing gospel music, and then found myself singing George Jones songs in a beer joint. So you have this kind of struggle there internally between those two things. Sometimes I’m a good boy, sometimes I’m not.”
2014 saw Adkins getting in an altercation with a Trace Adkins impersonator aboard a cruise ship, followed by a trip to rehab, and ending in his wife filing for divorce.
“I’ve had plenty of time to document some of the trials that I’ve been through … might as well sing about them,” he reflects. “It seems to help a bit.”
The new album will be released under the recently-formed Wheelhouse Records, the fourth country music label under the BBR Music Group (Stoney Creek Records, Broken Bow Records and Red Bow Records).
Adkins will be the only major act on the label, followed by Texas-based indie act Granger Smith.
“I’ve been working on a new record for the last couple of years now. I figured somebody would want it when I got through with it!” Adkins says.
“I’m really glad I ended up where I’m at … it seems like a perfect fit. Everybody that I’ve met that works there, and all the artists on the label … it’s a good place.”
