Even though they're country superstars, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are just like normal parents who are a bit nervous when it comes to their kids dating.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill‘s three teenage daughters are going to have to think twice before bringing a boy back home to meet mom and dad. The country music couple was on the Ellen Degeneres show back in February, and they admitted that they’re a bit overprotective when it comes to letting their children date.

McGraw and Hill married in 1996 and are the parents of three teenage girls, Gracie, 19, Maggie, 18, and Audrey, 15. Tim, like any other dad who has daughters, reacts (or overreacts) to the whole dating idea. After all, no one can break the bond between a father and a daughter. Check out the full video here!

“There was a winter formal or something, it was a bunch of kids in a limousine, and I had a sledgehammer over my shoulder. But that was on purpose,” McGraw recalled while on the show with his wife. When he was asked to explain why he was carrying a sledgehammer in that moment, the singer replied, “Look, you don’t want to be mean, but when someone’s taking your daughter somewhere, you want to induce a healthy amount of respect… and fear.”

As for Hill, she said she felt okay about the idea of them dating, but then it actually started happening and now she’s unsure.

“I was a little soft on it, but then when you go through it for the first time — those of you who have daughters out there — all of a sudden I became this animal, like, do it, take the sledgehammer to the front [room],” Hill admitted. “Whatever you have to do, do it.”

Their two oldest girls are in college now, but Audrey still lives at home with her country superstar parents in Nashville. Hill isn’t quite ready to let go. “It’s still hard,” she told DeGeneres after seeing her other daughters grow up and move out of the house.

Since appearing on The Ellen Show, the country music couple has been on the road together for their Soul2Soul Tour. They will be touring to the end of October. In November, the couple will be featured on Showtime for a look at their time on the road as husband and wife and, more importantly, as a mom and dad.

Excited to partner with @showtime and give you an inside look at #Soul2Soul this November.
