Country music artist Thomas Rhett just scored his 10th No. 1 hit with "Marry Me," a tune that is reflective of what could have happened in his personal life.

Country music superstar Thomas Rhett just earned his 10th No. 1 single of his career with “Marry Me.” The slightly autobiographical song climbed to the top of the Mediabase chart and continues to rise in popularity with listeners.

Rhett wrote the track alongside Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley and Shane McAnally. He calls it his “what if” song.

“‘Marry Me’ is one of my favorite tracks on the record,” Rhett shared with Nash Country Daily. “It’s my big ‘what if’ song. I wrote it from the perspective of if I had never told my wife how I felt about her all those years ago. I probably would have been sitting at her wedding watching her marry someone else. Heartbreaking thought – and thankfully I did tell her how I felt – but it makes for a great song concept that so many people can relate to.”

Rhett predicts how his life would have panned out if he didn’t tell his now-wife Lauren how he felt about her. She was actually engaged to someone else prior to Rhett.

When the two first met in first grade, they became best friends. They went to church camp at age 13 and started dating a few years later. At the time, their relationship didn’t work out, but they stayed close as friends. In their late teenage years, they both got into serious relationships and got serious with different people.

Lauren’s dad reached out to the emerging country singer after noticing Rhett still had feelings for his daughter.

“Her dad called me and said, ‘If you don’t come over here tonight and tell Lauren how you feel about her, then I’m going to tell her how you feel about her,” Rhett told CBS. So he laid his heart out on the line and gave it another shot. Sure enough, it paid off and the two are now one of country music’s cutest couples!

Check out this sweet video compilation from when they were best friends growing up, leading to their marriage in 2012. They were both 22 when they tied the knot and so in love.

Since 2012, Thomas Rhett has released 13 singles and 10 of them have reached the No. 1 spot! Share this news with other fans of the Georgia native!
