Tenille Townes’ “Jersey On The Wall” is extremely relatable if you have ever experienced an unexpected loss. Listen to the song here!
Country music singer-songwriter Tenille Townes’ new song “Jersey On The Wall” now has an emotional music video to go with it. The track comes from Townes’ forthcoming full-length debut album, which also features “White Horse,” “I Kept The Roses,” and lead single “Somebody’s Daughter.”
Of the video inspired by a series of tragic losses, Townes shares, “Leaving space in this video for people to insert their own emotions and think of people in their own stories was so important to me. There’s an anchor of light coming in through the gym window, across the lockers and in the hallways that represents the ever-present hope that is still there, even in the darkest of losses. We were able to use the actual jerseys of Danielle and Drayton, who were both the inspiration behind this song. It was so emotional seeing both of their #9s hanging there during the video shoot and it means so much to have their jerseys be such a big part.”
There’s a jersey on the wall
In a high-school gym in my hometown
In the corner, by the scoreboard
Where the bleacher seats fold down
Twenty-seven took the Tigers
To the finals that year
But that’s not why it’s hanging there
If I ever get to Heaven
You know I got a long list of questions
Like how do You make a snowflake?
Are You angry when the Earth quakes?
How does the sky change in a minute?
How do You keep this big rock spinnin’?
Why can’t You stop a car from crashin’?
Forgive me, I’m just askin’
I bet somewhere, there’s a yearbook
In a box under a bed
With a senior picture missin’
In Loving Memory instead
And somewhere there’s a mother
Who stopped goin’ to church
‘Cause Your plan quit makin’ sense down here on Earth
If I ever get to Heaven
You know I got a long list of questions
Like how do You make a snowflake?
Are You angry when the Earth quakes?
How does the sky change in a minute?
How do You keep this big rock spinnin’?
Why couldn’t You stop that car from crashin’?
Forgive me, I’m just askin’
Oh, I’m just sayin’
You don’t have to answer now
Oh, but some day
If I ever get to Heaven
Got a long list of questions
Like how do You make a snowflake?
Are You angry when the Earth quakes?
How does the sky change in a minute?
How do You keep this big rock spinnin’?
If You got Your hands on everythin’ that happens
Then why couldn’t You stop that car from crashin’?
Forgive me, I’m just askin’
Oh, I’m just askin’
