Michigan native Tegan Marie is only 13-years-old and she is poised to be country music’s next big thing!
Tegan picked up a guitar at the age of 6, started penning songs at 8, and was playing national stages by just 11-years-old. Her memorable vocals and sensitive interpretations have tween and teen girls across the nation clamoring for more. The emerging country music artist recently signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville, making her the youngest country artist signed to the label and the youngest female in 45 years – since Tanya Tucker signed with CBS Records in 1972 – to ink a major label country record deal.
In August, the starlet made her Grand Ole Opry debut, performing her songs “Keep it Lit” and “Roots,” the latter of which references some of the country music genre’s most iconic artists.
“When I was on stage and everyone was clapping and they didn’t stop clapping, it sunk in,” she told The Tennessean about the major milestone. “I didn’t want to cry but I ended up crying. I was like, ‘Don’t ruin this, Tegan. Don’t blow it.’ But I cried. I was really happy because I knew people liked what they heard. It felt so good. I didn’t know what to do.”
Aside from recording her own original music, Tegan Marie isn’t afraid to cover popular hits by some of country music’s most popular artists. Watch her cover songs by Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan, LeAnn Rimes, Carrie Underwood, and Maddie & Tae below!
