Prior to releasing his latest album, Seasons Change, country music star Scotty McCreery had to face several obstacles that were both meaningful and challenging. He was able to walk away from these hurdles with honest experiences that helped him write 14 tracks that come straight from the heart and soul. His tracks, such as “This Is It,” tell his life stories and express his emotions.
In 2016, Scotty was unexpectedly dropped from his label, Mercury Nashville, that was his label home since winning American Idol in 2011. This was one of the first times that the artist was confronted with the dark side of the music industry in a year he describes as the “lowest point” in his life. The sudden setback forced him to be pushed into a world that he had never faced before as an independent artist. He took this change, however, and created a new mindset that allowed him to tackle these obstacles with poise.
Looking back on his experiences, the North Carolina native calls these challenging times a “blessing in disguise.” McCreery ended up teaming with Triple Tiger Records and found his strength to create an album that hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Album chart. This album not only gave him hope, but also taught him valuable learning experiences that he is likely to hold onto for years to come.
“Writing about yourself and writing about life in general, you’ll figure out things about you that you didn’t already know,” McCreery explained to Sounds Like Nashville about the music that he created during a time that “never seemed like there was a light at the end of the tunnel.” “Coming out of that, to have such a positive record, just upbeat, energetic record, to me is talking about how you’re stronger than you probably think you are – just got to pull yourself out of it sometimes and have a good attitude about it because everything happens for a reason.”
The singer-songwriter is ready to take the lessons he has learned over the last few years and hit the road on his Seasons Change Tour with rising artist Jimmie Allen as support.
