Scotty McCreery didn't hold anything back when he incorporated a mix of classic country hits into his recent Grand Ole Opry performance!
For 90 years and running, the famous Grand Ole Opry has been home to some of country music’s greats such as Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Garth Brooks, and Dolly Parton just to name a few.
Earlier this month, country music artist and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery showed off his musical chops by performing a medley of beloved country music classics in front of the Opry’s well-versed audience. He started off his medley with Conway Twitty’s “Hello Darlin'” along with Randy Travis’ “Forever and Ever Amen.” He then added his own spin on one of Johnny Cash’s top songs, “Folsom Prison Blues.” The crowd didn’t hesitate to sing along when McCreery added Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee,” to the mix along with John Michael Montgomery’s “Sold“ to conclude his performance.
The 24 year-old certainly went big and it paid off. Enjoy Scotty’s daring medley of top hits below!
McCreery continues to produce quality original music and recently released his touching tune “Five More Minutes,” which is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, and Amazon Music.
Scotty has shared that this emotional song is dedicated to his grandfather, who passed in January 2015. When he was writing this song with record producer Frank Rogers and songwriter Monty Criswell, McCreery explained that he wished he could tell his grandfather some things that he never got the chance to. Monty came up with the title when he said to Scotty that it seemed he needed five more minutes with his grandfather. Scotty knew immediately that “Five More Minutes” would be the title and later that day he updated his fans on Twitter that he had just written his favorite song yet.

Eight years old a couple cane poles sitting down by the creek
Our lines in the water watching those bobbers seeing that red sun sink
Mama’s on the porch yelling supper’s hot, y’all come and get it
We yelled five more minutes
At sixteen it was twelve o three standing at her front door
Katie’s dad said midnight, but we needed just a little more
Yellow light flipping on and off, interrupting that goodnight kissing
We wanted five more minutes
Time rolls by the clock don’t stop
I wish I had a few more drops
Of the good stuff, the good times
Oh but they just keep on flying
Right on by like it ain’t nothing
Wish I had me a pause button
Moments like those Lord knows I’d hit it
And give myself five more minutes
At eighteen turned my helmet in and walked to the fifty yard line
Just the coach and me after we lost eighteen to nine
And I cried man next time to get in here I’ll have to buy a ticket
Can’t you give me five more minutes
Time rolls by the clock don’t stop
I wish I had a few more drops
Of the good stuff, the good times
Oh but they just keep on flying
Right on by like it ain’t nothing
Wish I had me a pause button
Moments like those Lord knows I’d hit it
And give myself five more minutes
At eighty-six my grandpa said there’s angels in the room
All the family gathered ’round knew the time was coming soon
With so much left to say I prayed Lord I ain’t finished
Just give us five more minutes
Time rolls by the clock don’t stop
I wish I had a few more drops
Of the good stuff, the good times
Oh but they just keep on flying
Right on by like it ain’t nothing
Wish I had me a pause button
Moments like those Lord knows I’d hit it
Yeah sometimes this old life will leave you wishing
That you had five more minutes
Five more minutes
