You would think that when two of country music's biggest stars joined together for a tour, they'd write music together. But not Luke Bryan and Sam Hunt!

Country music sensation Luke Bryan just started his What Makes You Country Tour at the end of May. He’s taking his concerts to stadiums around the country, and he invited fellow star Sam Hunt as a special guest. That means they’ll be spending lots and lots of time together, both on and off the stage. We hoped that might lead to the two major country music stars writing music together… but it probably won’t happen.

Don’t worry, it’s not because the guys aren’t interested in working together. In fact, Hunt really likes his tour mate. They’re both from Georgia, and Hunt told Taste of Country, “I like Luke a lot, he’s genuine.” However, Hunt admits that songwriting on the road just isn’t his thing, no matter who he tours with.

“I’ve never been against writing with other artists,” he said. But he clarifies that, “When I’m on the road, it’s hard to switch over and get in that headspace. I’m fairly easily distracted.”

Out with Luke this summer!

It makes sense. Songwriting takes a lot of focus, and sometimes that concentration is hard to find when artists are on the road. Hunt prefers to put his focus on his performances and worry about songwriting when he’s done with the hustle and bustle of touring.

“I kind of put on two different hats in this industry. When I’m doing the artist thing, I’m not really thinking about songwriting, but when I come home and get in the studio, I completely switch gears,” Hunt explained to the outlet. “I’m like a chameleon. I completely change to a different state of mind and don’t really even imagine myself as an artist anymore. It’s a lot easier for me to focus.”

Part of that could be the comfort of Music City. When he is back in Nashville, Hunt says he is a creature of habit when it comes to writing music.

“I guess I’m a little more comfortable with the familiarity of the environment of the writers that I’ve written with in the past.”

So maybe the time Hunt spends with Bryan won’t be in Nashville, but we haven’t lost hope that Hunt will come up with a collaboration in the future! He recently released a new single, “Downtown’s Dead,” and shared that another song will come out later this summer, too.
