Riley Thompson American Idol 2019 Top 10 reveal ended up as a battle for survival. Riley was not picked for the Top 10 by the audience and had to sing for the judges 3 voting slots. Riley sang Alan Jackson’s “It Must Be Love,” during the Top 10 Reveal round for the live audience and judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Katy Perry. “It Must Be Love” was written by Bob McDill and first achieved No. 1 when Don Williams released it as a single in 1979. Alan Jackson covered the song in 2000 and returned this popular country tune to the top of the Billboard Country charts. Watch the Riley performance and compare to the Alan Jackson version below.
“Well, great song choice, and as we keep saying, I mean, we could see where your confidence was a little shaken and I don’t blame you one bit for that,” Like Bryan stated. Bryan continued, “But I love the song choice. It embodies what you’ve given us throughout this competition. I cannot believe America, it’s like, ‘What you doing, America? Come on!’ I mean, I loved — I’ve loved all the song choices and I’ve loved your growth. Like I said, I know your confidence got a little hurt just then. But hang in there. We still might have your back.”
Riley sang Sara Evan’s “Suds In a Bucket” song for the prior round of American Idol competition. Unfortunately, 16 year old Riley did not gain one of the judges slots and ultimately did not make the Top 10, and was eliminated from the competition. We are certain that we will be seeing more of Riley as she pursues a Country Music career.
