Country music icon Reba McEntire's Christmas traditions with her son Shelby include one very unexpected movie. More here...
Country music star Reba McEntire’s Christmas tradition with her only child, son Shelby Blackstock, is full of humor! The pair always watched National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation on Christmas Eve and now they watch Elf along with Nacho Libre. While the Jack Black film isn’t exactly a holiday movie, the mother and son just want a good laugh.
Besides sharing their film picks, Reba also told The Boot about the best part of the holidays when Shelby was a little boy.
“He would open gifts, and I would say, ‘Shelby, who’s that from?’ and he would say, ‘Uh, I don’t know.’ He was like, 3 years old,” the singer-songwriter recalled. “And I’d say, ‘Shelby, that’s from Santa Claus.’ And he’d say, ‘Oh yeah, I forgot! He’s a really good guy.'”
“So, watching the excitement of a child opening gifts, that’s the best thing about Christmas. Opening presents and watching them. It’s so much fun,” she added.
Now that Shelby is all grown up, Reba and her son often go on vacation together after the holiday season is over.
“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” Lyrics
I’m dreaming tonight of the place I love
Even more then I usually do
And although I know it’s a long road back
This I promise you
Well, I’ll be home for Christmas
You can plan on me
So please have snow and lots of mistletoe
And presents under the tree
Oh Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love life is
I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
You know Christmas Eve will find me
Where the love life is
Darling I’ll be home for Christmas
If only in my dreams
Oh if only in my dreams
