Reba McEntire Recalls First Time Hearing Herself On The Radio

Country music entertainer Reba McEntire reminisces about the first time she ever heard herself on the radio with her loving family by her side. More here!

Country music artist Reba McEntire says it feels like just yesterday she was listening to her first single, “I Don’t Want To Be A One Night Stand,” on the radio.

It was 1975, just a year before her college graduation, the emerging artist from Chockie, Oklahoma was in her living room with her mom, Jaqueline, and sister, Susie. McEntire claims they owned a radio that would get better reception the closer you got to it. It was through this radio that they tuned into KVOO radio-station through Tulsa, Oklahoma, to hear her first of many songs playing.

As Reba recalled to The Boot, she, along with mom and sister melted to the ground with tears and laughter when “I Don’t Want To Be A One Night Stand” played for the public to hear for the first time.

Listen to her very first single below!

The track was the first single of of her self-titled 1997 debut album, which also featured a cover of the Jennifer Warnes’ “Right Time of the Night” and Hot’s “Angel in Your Arms.” Surprisingly enough, Reba’s debut album was not a commercial success and failed to chart. We’re glad that disappointment didn’t stop her!

“I Don’t Want To Be A One Night Stand” Lyrics

Now you ask me if I will go with you
Well I’d like to but I don’t know if it’s right
Are you looking for someone to care for you
Or just someone to love you tonight

Well I don’t want to be a one night stand
So if that’s what you got planned
Baby before we go you better let me know
I don’t want to be a one night stand

It been so long since I’ve had some loving
And your kisses make me wish that you were mine
Now it’d be so easy for me to fall for you
And let myself have a good time

Well I don’t want to be a one night stand
So if that’s what you got planned
Baby before we go you better let me know
I don’t want to be a one night stand

Well I don’t want to be a one night stand
So if that’s what you got planned
Baby before we go you better let me know
I don’t want to be a one night stand

Well I don’t want to be a one night stand
So if that’s what you got planned
Baby before we go you better let me know
I don’t want to be a one night stand
