Texas country singer Robynn Shayne just released a new wedding-themed radio single and talks to us about her own unique wedding!
It’s not everyday you see a country singer getting married as Princess Leia from the movie Star Wars, but that’s exactly how her wedding day went! She talks more about it below!
CF: So you chose to get married as Princess Leia and Hans Solo….what inspired that?
RS: Jack is a huge Star Wars fan. His nickname is Chewie because he is loyal and friendly, but he could rip your arms off just like a Wookie if provoked. Haha! So, I couldn’t quite bring myself to let him dress as Chewbacca and say “I do” with a straight face. Jack explained the deep connection and love that Han and Leia had for one another. That settled it. Plus, it was a surprise wedding at our Halloween party. We blended right in.
CF: Did you send out traditional invitations?
RS: No. We decided to make it a surprise pop up wedding. Only 10 people out of the 100 people that showed up for the Halloween party knew what was happening.
CF: Wow! Did it all go off without a hitch?
RS: No, it didn’t. Jack had his day planned out but I asked him to get a few things for the wedding. Well, he decided to take care of his errands first and one of those was going to the gym. He was gone for hours and I needed the stuff he picked up before the guests started arriving. I was so mad at him and then I had to marry him later. It was a true test of our love for one another. I was literally on his shoulders hanging lights in the backyard on the tree we would later say our vows under and become man and wife. We had to come together as a team to get things done. That’s how we knew this was going to be a great union.
CF: That’s hilarious and sweet all at once. How did you guys pull off the surprise wedding?
RS: Well, after everyone was getting their fill of food and drink Jack asked everyone to come outside for the costume contest. He thanked everyone for coming to the party. He said, “This is normally where we do the costume contest but first, welcome to our wedding!”
CF: That’s amazing! You released your 2nd album, you celebrated birthdays, and you got married. What’s your secret to a happy marriage?
RS: Yes, we love to keep our calendar full. That year was a perfect example of how we do things and how we accomplish what we do. There is no real secret. Know what you want as an individual and share that with your significant other. Communication is key. If you’re unhappy, talk to each other. If you’re happy, talk to each other. Marriage or relationships work when you are honed into each other’s feelings and needs. When that stops, that’s when things fall apart.
CF: If you got to do it all over again, would you change anything?
RS: Not a thing. It was perfect. Two lives coming together with friends and family doing something we both love to do. Throw parties that is. We wouldn’t have changed a thing. Now, did I ever think I would have a Star Wars themed wedding with friends and family dressed up in costumes? No, but I couldn’t imagine it any other way.
CF: So who won the costume contest? :)
RS: It was our friend Amanda. She was dressed as a “Girls Gone Wild” girl with her buddy following her around with a video camera. She had a black sign that said, “Censored” on it over her chest. The crowd loved it! You win if the crowd cheers the loudest for you. We always love to see what people come up with because we give out Visa gift cards as prizes. People really try if they know there’s a nice prize involved. Plus you get bragging rights until the next year. So much fun!
