It feels like forever since Pistol Annies, comprised of country music songbirds Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley, first debuted and released their debut album Hell on Heels in August 2011. Annie Up, the trio’s second studio album, was released in May 2013. Its lead single “Hush Hush,” became Pistol Annies’ first chart entry on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The group is also featured on Blake Shelton‘s hit “Boys ‘Round Here,” from his 2013 album, Based on a True Story.
Due to the demands of both Miranda and Ashley’s solo careers, the group cancelled all of their tour stops in June 2013 and went on hiatus. In 2017, the Annies recorded a cover of the song “Tulsa Time” which appeared on a Don Williams tribute album titled “Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams.” In multiple interviews, Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley clarified that the Pistol Annies had not disbanded and intend on putting out more music as their schedules allow.
While we wait for their return, Miranda gave fans a hopeful update via a recent radio interview, “Literally the other night I had a song that kind of just came out of the air to me, and I sent a verse and a chorus to the girls. And nobody said anything. Not, ‘Hi, how you doing.’ Everybody’s in different directions, which is always why Annies takes a while. I sent them half a song, and then within three minutes, I had a whole song. They both sent me a verse back. And I was, ‘And, we’re back.”
The songstress also admitted that she’s not sure what’s next for her, but she’s looking forward to the future. “I don’t know when or what. I just feel this energy and this excitement about what’s coming next. It just almost honestly gave me more strength to go, ‘Alright. I got through that. I’m happy, let’s move on.'”
While on her Livin’ Like Hippies Tour, Miranda is taking multitasking to the next level by songwriting and drinking in the shower…
Hey, whatever works. Just don’t water down that wine!
