Old Dominion were recently the guest recording artists on NBC’s hit series 'Songland.' Check out their new song "Young" from the show, here!

The Old Dominion Young Song has an origin to the TV show about songwriting.  Country music group Old Dominion were the guest recording artists on NBC’s hit series Songland, as they looked for a song to be featured in a new Jeep brand commercial. The band, along with Jeep/FCA CMO Olivier François, chose “Songland” contestant Katelyn Tarver’s “Young” to be released and featured in a 90-second Jeep commercial, in which Tarver also appears as a character.

The Premise of Songland

Songland offers songwriters the opportunity of a lifetime—to pitch their original songs to music icons. Guided by producers Ester Dean, Ryan Tedder, and Shane McAnally, the songwriters refine their submissions to suit the artists’ unique styles. This innovative process gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the art of songwriting and the transformation of raw ideas into polished hits.

Songland provides talented up-and-coming songwriters with a one-of-a-kind opportunity to collaborate with visionary music producers who are responsible for today’s biggest hits.

“Songwriting is what this band is built on,” shared Matthew Ramsey, frontman of Old Dominion. “Our love for writing songs and for the people who write them is what got us where we are today. We jumped at the chance to be a part of Songland because it meant that the public would get a glimpse of what we have known for years: Without songwriters there would be no music.”

The Winning Song: “Young”

“Young” stood out among the submissions, thanks to its relatable lyrics and nostalgic vibe. The song, written by budding songwriter Katelyn Tarver, captured the essence of youth and the longing to relive carefree moments. After hearing the initial pitch, Old Dominion immediately connected with the track’s universal themes.

The Transformation Process

With Shane McAnally’s expert guidance, “Young” underwent a transformation that elevated it to new heights. The production emphasized the song’s emotional core while aligning it with Old Dominion’s upbeat, radio-friendly style. The final version showcased a blend of poignant storytelling and infectious melodies—hallmarks of Old Dominion’s music.

Old Dominion Young Song Lyrics

All we had was a feeling
All we knew is we were leaving
A couple drops in the ocean
Go back for just a moment

Before the music was jaded
Before the picture was faded
Falling with our eyes open
It’s gone before you know it

Lately I’ve been thinking about it, baby
If we made it complicated
Or if this is just life, ooh
Lately I’ve been walking on a wire
I know nostalgia is a liar
But I still miss those nights, ooh

Baby, I just wanna be young, young
Forever with you, you
I just wanna be young, young
Forever with you, you

You’re still wearing my jacket
I can still get you laughing
If we ever forget it
Go back just for a minute

You know all my secrets
I know all your demons
You still say you love me
And I know you mean it
But that don’t mean I can’t miss it
Go back just for a minute

Lately I’ve been walking on a wire
I know nostalgia is a liar
But I still miss those nights, ooh

Baby, I just wanna be young, young
Forever with you, you
I just wanna be young, young
Forever with you, you

I just wanna be young, young
Forever with you

Baby, I just wanna be young, young
Forever with you, you
I just wanna be young, young
Forever with you, forever with you
I just wanna be young
