Country music superstar Keith Urban found himself in an amusing situation on Friday night— a kind stranger bailed him out when he was short a few dollars while buying snacks at a Medford, New Jersey Wawa convenience store.
The Aussie’s snack angel, Ruth Reed, didn’t realize his identity at first and was just trying to help someone out when she overheard a customer in front of her in line ask his companion for five dollars.
“Three years ago, I made a resolution to treat somebody at Wawa once a week,” Reed explained to the media. “I have done that ever since. It is the best. I would encourage everybody to do it because it makes you feel good about you.”
When Reed commented that the stranger resembled the country music artist, the substitute teacher from New Jersey didn’t believe him one bit when he claimed to really be THE Keith Urban.
“I argued with him that he was not Keith Urban,” Reed recalled. “I said, ‘Yeah, well if you’re Keith Urban, where is Nicole [Kidman] and who is that woman you were with?’ He said ‘It’s my sister, let’s go ask her.’ My snippy words were, ‘Yes, I’m sure she wouldn’t lie to an old lady.’ I was so sure he was just yanking my chain.”
Hilariously enough, it was the presence of Keith’s nearby bodyguard that convinced Reed that he wasn’t playing a joke.
After the humorous exchange, Keith graciously obliged and took a picture with Ruth out in the Wawa parking lot.
As can be expected, Reed’s former students and community are loving this heartwarming celebrity encounter. The world needs more people like Ruth!

Besides hunting down a quick bite to eat, Urban was in the area for his Graffiti U World Tour stop in nearby Camden, New Jersey. Apparently, he still had food on his mind since he nearly called the venue, BB&T Pavilion, PB&J instead…
