Miranda Lambert & Hometown Join Forces for Animal Adoption Center

Miranda Lambert and her MuttNation Foundation has teamed up with her hometown of Lindale, Texas to start a new animal adoption center. More here!

Texas native Miranda Lambert and her MuttNation Foundation realized that her hometown needed its own adoption center. So, they teamed up with The Cannery Lindale to make the dream come to life. The two parties are also working with GreaterGood.org and Rescue Rebuild. The Cannery Lindale purchased an unused government building and is donating it to be used as an adoption center, which will be located next to a dog park also being built.

Both MuttNation and GreaterGood.org are celebrating their 10-year anniversaries, so they decided to collaborate on this project.

“MuttNation Foundation has been working with dogs now for 10 years and has done very good,” Rick Lambert, Miranda’s father, told the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “We adopted 999 dogs out last year. GreaterGood.org has taken notice of what she has done and they notified us and wanted to do a project with MuttNation because it’s their 10th anniversary also.”

A nearby university, Tyler Junior College, will also contribute by maintaining the adoption center and using it to train their veterinary students.

According to Lindale City Manager Carolyn Caldwell, putting an adoption center in the city of Lindale was not originally the plan. “We didn’t have the funding for it,” she said. “So we almost didn’t accept the house because of that. But TJC stepped up and TJC is actually going to manage this for us.”

The idea of a dog park started four years ago from a mass survey that asked citizens of Lindale what they would like to see. One of the highest scoring items was a dog park, and MuttNation is helping to bring that idea to life. Thanks to the Lamberts and TJC, the project is approaching phase two of the building process, despite the idea being scratched at one point due to funding. Phase two will start in March 2018, which involves adding water features for the dogs and other things for them to play on.
“We intend for this to be a social gathering place for humans as it is for dogs,” Lambert said. “Dog lovers all have that in common and they want it to be a socialization process for both of them.”

The adoption center will be named “MuttNation Station,” which ties into the history of the railroad that used to run through the property.

Within the next few weeks, the house will be renovated and the dog park will be built. In order to keep costs down for the city, and with hopefully no tax money spent, the organizers are trying to use volunteers and find businesses interested in feeding the work crews to benefit the project. Donations are also accepted. Check out this informative video from the Lambert family themselves!

The adoption center is set to have four meeting rooms where people can interact with the dogs. Just recently, on October 14th, MuttNation had an adoption even with dogs that were impacted by Hurricane Harvey and are in need a forever home.

“We just went down to Houston and took 283 pets out of shelters to make room for the pets that are coming in that are lost from their owners,” Rick Lambert said. “Pets we took had been in there awhile and unfortunately some of them were destined for the needle. We don’t like that so we took them out of there. We have dispersed most of them across the United States now. Miranda’s heart is no-kill shelters or low-kill shelters to try to save all the lives we can.”

Keep up the great work, team!
