Country music singer-songwriter Maren Morris has released the song “Dear Hate,” featuring country music icon Vince Gill, in response to the tragic events that unfolded Sunday night during the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas where at least 59 people were killed and over 500 injured during a mass shooting.
The Texan, who performed at the festival the night prior to the shooting, made “Dear Hate” available Monday afternoon via YouTube, less than 24 hours after what is being called the largest mass shooting in U.S. history.
Because of the overwhelming response to the song on YouTube and Morris’ social media accounts, her record label has released the song to digital service providers for purchase and/or streaming. (Get the track here.)
Morris also announces that 100 percent of her proceeds from “Dear Hate” will be donated to Las Vegas nonprofits for immediate and long-term needs of the victims via the Music City Cares fund.
“I wrote this song 3 years ago, recorded it last year with Vince Gill, and always have fans asking when I’ll put it out. I never knew when would be the right time, but I realized today that there’s never a right time. Hate is everywhere, and I’m sick of not doing enough. In the darkest tunnel, there is still love & music. That’s what it’s here for. Here is Dear Hate. Any cent I see from this I’m donating to the Music City Cares Fund,” the songstress shared via social media.

“Dear Hate” Lyrics
Dear Hate
I saw you on the news today
Like a shock that takes my breath away
You fall like rain, cover us in drops of pain
I’m afraid that we just might drown
Dear Hate
Well, you sure are colorblind
Your kiss is the cruelest kind
You could poison any mind
Just look at mine
Don’t know how this world keeps spinning ’round and ’round
You were there in the garden, like a snake in the grass
I see you in the morning staring through the looking glass
You whisper down through history and echo through these halls
But I hate to tell you, love’s gonna conquer all
Dear Hate
You were smiling from that Selma bridge
In Dallas, when that bullet hit and Jackie cried
You pulled those towers from the sky
But even on our darkest nights
The world keeps spinning ’round
You were there in the garden, like a snake in the grass
I see you in the morning staring through the looking glass
You whisper down through history and echo through these halls
But I hate to tell you, love’s gonna conquer all
Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh
Dear Love
Just when I think you’ve given up
You were there in the garden when I ran from your voice
I hear you every morning through the chaos and the noise
You still whisper down through history and echo through these halls
And tell me love’s gonna conquer all
Gonna conquer all
Indeed, Love will conquer all. Share this beautiful song with other country music fans!
