The story behind this track is one that many can relate to: calling Mom or Dad after a heartbreak! The singers portray the story of the endless questions that run through the mind after losing someone special. The most common question and the title of the track: Can you die from a broken heart?
Singers Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye accompanied by Jonathan Singleton and Deric Ruttan penned “Die From A Broken Heart” together. Maddie and Tae selected to work these writers because they knew that they would help convey the meaning and emotion they were striving to capture with this piece.
Jonathan was the one who formulated the name “Die From A Broken Heart” and the girls just loved it! “And when he mentioned that title, we were like, “Oh my gosh!” At least [once] — maybe even twice — a day we call our parents, and we’re like, “What do we do? Is this the end of the world? What’s happening?” Because your parents are invincible; I feel like that’s something for everyone, or at least for both of us, we feel that way,” Maddie reveals. “And we wanted to write this song where, you could feel it from the mom’s perspective, from the girl’s perspective, from the dad’s perspective … Whatever character you connect with, you heard their perspective.”
The ladies hit the mark when recording this track and bringing it acoustic gives the song a great sound!
“Die From A Broken Heart” Lyrics
Out of your favorite dress?
Black mascara off a pillow case?
Cure a one-too-many headache?
Momma can I come and maybe stay a few days
This weekend or next?
And hey, how do you get a red wine stain
Out of your favorite dress
Momma, the nerve of this guy
To leave me so easy
Am I gonna be alright?
I wanna kick myself for falling so hard
Momma, can you die from a broken heart?
To come and look at my front door
It got slammed last night
And now it don’t close right
And just promise that you won’t tell him everything
And keep that pistol in the drawer
Momma, please don’t say
I’m gonna laugh about this someday
You didn’t see the way he drove away
Momma, the nerve of this guy
To leave me so easy
Am I gonna be alright?
I wanna kick myself for falling so hard
Momma, can you die from a broken heart?
Oh, a broken heart
Can you go blind from crying in the dark?
Was it ever really real
If he don’t feel like I feel?
Momma, the nerve of this guy
To leave me so easy
Am I gonna be alright?
Momma, the nerve of this guy
To leave me so easy
Am I gonna be alright?
I wanna kick myself for falling so hard
Momma, can you die from a broken heart?
A broken heart?
