On December 8, 2006, college sweethearts Luke Bryan and Caroline Boyer Bryan tied the knot! In honor of their 11th wedding anniversary, let’s take a look back at their love story and where they are now!
While attending Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia, the pair met at a local bar called Dingus Magee’s in the fall of 1998, he was a senior and she was a freshman.
Bryan explained in a past intereview with Good Housekeeping that he was instantly smitten with the blonde beauty, “It was love at first sight with Caroline — those blue eyes of hers. I knew that, no matter what, I was going to make my way over to her.”
Despite how smooth Luke Bryan seems, Caroline fessed up to People magazine that she was the one who made the first move, “He was always a gentleman. We hung out as friends first and he never made a move on me. I kissed him first! He was always so scared of making a girl feel uncomfortable, he wouldn’t cross a line.”
Sadly, the college sweethearts broke up and were apart for over five year before reconnecting again in Statesboro.
“I was playing a little bar in Statesboro and she just happened to kinda be in town. We kinda saw each other and talked a little bit and then started emailing back and forth a little bit. And she was like, ‘Hey, you want to come to my family’s Christmas party?’ I went to the party and the rest is history,” recalled Luke to the Huffington Post.
After years of on-and-off dating, Luke and Caroline got hitched and are still going strong despite the pressures of country music fame and intense tour schedules. The happy couple have two sons, Thomas Boyer Bryan “Bo” born on March 18, 2008 and Tatum Christopher Bryan “Tate” born on August 11, 2010. They are also raising their teenage nephew, Tilden, whose mother and father tragically passed away in in 2007 and 2014 respectively. Til’s two older sisters, Kris and Jordan, are also frequent visitors to the busy Bryan household.
When it comes to maintaining their connection as a couple, Luke shared with Entertainment Tonight, “We both have our things that we love to do. We can tell when we need a night off. Go grab a hotel room somewhere or go do a fun date night or something. We stay pretty in-tune with all that and try to make sure we’re always on the same page.”
The Georgia native keeps his marriage advice extremely simple and humorous: “Keep the fights clean and the sex dirty.”
Though the couple are certainly among the Nashville elite, they keep their lives pretty low-key and opt for the simple things— movie theater dates with each other and a batch of chili dogs for Christmas Eve dinner with the family. Despite their preference for keeping things simple and laid back, Luke and Caroline always bring their ‘A’ game to events and the red carpet!
Besides celebrating their anniversary, Luke’s sixth studio album, What Makes You Country, also dropped today! Instead of enjoying an intimate celebration with his lady love, Luke has been in New York City promoting his latest project. Hopefully he reserved some quality time in the Big Apple for his supportive spouse!
