Lucas Hoge released Power of Garth in 2017 as a track on his “Dirty South” album. The song pays tribute to the positive impact and influence of Garth Brook’s songs on his family and childhood.
Hoge stated, “I try to either find songs or write songs that I think are going to stand the test of time and really connect with the listener,” Hoge says. “I want every album to be an audio novel that people can listen to from top to bottom that takes them on a journey. I want songs that you can sink your teeth into and actually carry with you.”
Hoge shares, “It feels great to be able to release a song that pays tribute to one of my favorite country artists, to be able to have this tribute be the last single of my latest album is a very big deal for me. I have been wanting to get this song out to radio for quite some time now and for it to finally be out and be reacting like I hoped it would is amazing and also another reason we put so much hard work into this album.”
This playful video gives us a glimpse into a childhood dream realized. “The inspiration for the video stems from the song itself, reflecting back on the songs that impacted my life (‘Thunder Rolls’, ‘Much Too Young’ and ‘The Dance’). These songs touched so many others as well,” Hoge explains. “We wanted to capture that ‘time travel’ feeling we all get when we hear songs that impacted us the first time we heard them, and I think this video does just that.”

Power of Garth Lyrics
My old man worked his fingers to the bone
He’d grab mom and me a glass of tea and those old cassettes
That memory still as sweet as it was back then
Every time I hear “The Thunder Rolls”
I’m right back to ten years old
Those songs are like a soundtrack to my life
I was too young to understand
Why mama cried when she heard the dance
Those melodies will forever be wrapped around my heart
And that’s the power of Garth
I was stuck in my truck, all backed up on the interstate
And “Much Too Young” took me back to yesterday
So I cranked it up, I sang along
I closed my eyes and it took me home
Every time I hear “The Thunder Rolls”
I’m right back to ten years old
Those songs are like a soundtrack to my life
I was too young to understand
Why mama cried when she heard the dance
Those melodies will forever be wrapped around my heart
And that’s the power of Garth
A lot of songs have come and gone
And faded in the dust
But no one’s ever come along
And hit me like he does
Every time I hear “The Thunder Rolls”
I’m right back to ten years old
Those songs are like a soundtrack to my life
I was too young to understand
Why mama cried when she heard the dance
Those melodies will forever be wrapped around my heart
And that’s the power of Garth
Yeah, that’s the power of Garth
