This interpretation of the song, however, is misguided. “Girl Crush” is not about a same-sex relationship, but rather about a woman’s jealousy of another woman’s relationship with a man. The “Girl Crush” song was written by Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose. This tune won Song of the Year from the Nashville Songwriters Association on October 11, 2015.
