Listen to the Song that Saved Eric Church’s Career [Video]

Eric Church covers the Kris Kristofferson tune that kept him from bailing on his dreams.

Lady Antebellum, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, and Willie Nelson all performed during “The Life & Songs of Kris Kristofferson” concert on March 16th to honor the prolific singer-songwriter-actor-U.S. Army veteran.

The night hit a very personal note when Eric Church got up to perform, he told a gripping story about the time when he almost quit his Nashville dreams and returned home.

“Like a lot of people that get told ‘no’ a lot. I played that game where, if I got told ‘no’ one more time, ‘I’m outta here. I’m packing up. I’m going back to North Carolina,” expressed the “Sinners Like Me” singer.

He then recalled a dismal publishing deal meeting, where he was told the following soul-crushing words.

“He goes, ‘I don’t know where you’re from, I don’t know much about you, but I’d go back there,’” relayed Eric.

Luckily for him— and for us— after the meeting, Kristofferson’s The Austin Sessions CD happened to be in his car and listening to the track “To Beat the Devil” changed his mind and reignited his desire to succeed. Enjoy Church’s cover of the tune below.
