Lauren Alaina has a lot to be grateful for including a rising career in country music and most importantly, a healthy family that supports her. Things weren’t always that great for the 2017 New Female Vocalist of the Year though.
When Alaina was growing up her father struggled with an alcohol addiction that resulted in a divorce from her mother and hard times with his daughter. Alaina wrote a song about her family history titled “Doin’ Fine” that really gave her fans a glimpse into her life.
“I wanted to tell the story because I think we all have crazy families and crazy drama and lots of things going on behind-the-scenes that we don’t necessarily tell people and share with people, but at the end of the day we’re all doing the best that we can. We all have to accept who we are and embrace where we come from, and ‘Doin’ Fine’ is that for me,” Alaina said..
Now, five years after her father got sober, the singer is closer than ever to her dad.
“We talk every single day, which is different for us. We didn’t used to talk every single day. He’s always been my dad, a great dad. I loved him, but we were not nearly as close as we are now. I think we’ve had such crazy journeys over the last few years that it’s really brought us together. We went through some of the hardest things ever together as a family. I love my dad, and I’m so proud of him. It’s so inspiring to see” said Alaina.
It’s clear to see that Alaina is a “daddy’s girl” and it is so sweet!
“Oh my gosh. My dad’s the best. I’m really proud of my daddy,” stated Alaina while backstage at the 2018 CMA Music Festival. “October 6th will be his five-year anniversary of being sober. So that’s a big one for us. And it’s been really amazing the last few years with his recovery. Our relationship was a little rocky before he went into rehab and now we talk every single day. And he is my daddy and I’m so proud of him.”
