Kenny Chesney continues in his efforts to help rebuild the devastated Virgin Islands after suffering through Hurricane Irma.

In the hours after Hurricane Irma ripped through the U.S. Virgin Islands, country music singer Kenny Chesney was already pledging to help the victims recover from the devastation. Chesney is a resident of St. John island, also known as “Love City”, and he lost his home during the storm.

Of course the mega-star wasn’t concerned for his loss, he was distraught over his friends and neighbors who had also lost everything but didn’t have the funds to immediately rebuild. Because of this, Chesney started the foundation Love For Love City in efforts to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Irma in the U.S Virgin Islands.

“It’s going to take a while. I think the last hurricane to do something close to this damage was Andrew and it took them 4 years to recover,” Chesney said of the devastation on the islands.

“This is the strongest storm to ever hit those islands. They are facing an uphill battle and they are facing years of cleanup. The thing I’m most worried about is, you know the hospitals need help, I’m worried about all the dogs. In my plane, I’m sending so much water and dog food to the Virgin Islands because so many people are displaced—I think that’s the right word to say. Yes, we will rebuild and we will recover. But the people that I know there and the people I’ve grown to love, they are really hard workers and they’ve got great hearts. It’s hard to rock them even with a hurricane of this size.”

It’s been almost a month now since the hurricane hit and Chesney decided to give us all an update on his fundraising efforts. In the video below Chesney posted:

“An update on the #LoveForLoveCity Foundation. In the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, we’ve been working around the clock to get much needed supplies and relief to the islands. There are still so many people in dire need of our help. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support, your donations and for spreading the word. Love ya.”
