The five honorees for the CMT award show were Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan and Thomas Rhett. Kelsea Ballerini was the Breakout Artist of the Year, and Shania Twain was the Artist of a Lifetime.

The 2016 CMT Artists of the Year special premiered from Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center on October 20. Each artist was honored with never-before-seen performances alongside lighthearted and emotional moments during the 90-minute special on CMT.
