Kellie Pickler's song "If It Wasn't For A Woman" was written in honor of her late grandmother, Faye. Enjoy Kellie's recent performance of the tune here!
Country music entertainer Kellie Pickler was raised by her grandparents, Faye and Clyde. Sadly, Faye passed away fifteen years ago due to lung cancer. Now, with some help from her husband, Kyle, and one of her best friends, Brian, Kellie wrote a song about her grandmother’s positive influence on her life. This summer, Pickler debuted the song during the CMA Music Festival. However, he most recent performance of “If It Wasn’t For A Woman” brought Pickler to tears!
“Pickler and Ben” is a daytime talk show co-hosted by the talented singer and journalist, Ben Aaron. The other day, on their show, Kellie Pickler was granted the opportunity to sing “If It Wasn’t For A Woman.” Before she began, Pickler gave a brief message, “This is one of the most speical songs I’ve ever written or co-written with my husband and our dear friend Brian Bunn,” said the North Carolina native. “We wrote this song at our kitchen table and it is all to shine a light on my grandmother Faye, who is the woman that I called mom. She raised me and she very much made me the woman I am today. Oh I could only hope to be half the woman she was. This is for grandma Faye. This is for everybody’s grandma. For any woman you have in your life. We all have that woman that we draw strength from and that made us who we are.”

I close my eyes and she’s right there
Barbie dolls and teddy bears
Picking buttercups from the yard
Putting them in mason jars
Tea parties and pecan pie
Make me think of her every time
Yes sir, yes ma’am
I wouldn’t be who I am
If it wasn’t for a woman
Leading me by the hand
Helping me understand
If it wasn’t for a woman
Teaching me wrong from right
Praying for me at night
I’d be half the woman I am
If it wasn’t for a woman
Met a man that treats me good
Opens my door like a gentleman should
She’d always said “Don’t settle for less”
Sometimes when I miss her
I can still hear her sweet words
“I love you, be safe”
I wouldn’t be here today
If it wasn’t for a woman
Leading me by the hand
Helping me understand
If it wasn’t for a woman
Teaching me wrong from right
Praying for me at night
I’d be half the woman I am
If it wasn’t for a woman
She saw your face in a photograph
Asked “who is this beauty with a Bible in her hand”
I said “She’s my angle and I’m the girl who wouldn’t know how to face this world”
If it wasn’t for a woman
Leading me by the hand
Helping me understand
If it wasn’t for a woman
Teaching me wrong from right
Praying for me at night
I’d be half the woman I am
If it wasn’t for a woman
