While trying to make a name for himself in Nashville, Keith Urban showed off his artistry at a unique venue. Watch the throwback footage here!
It’s always fun to look back at celebrities before they hit ‘international household name’ status. Spence Manor, the Nashville hotel-turned-condominiums on Music Row, recently shared a video clip of Keith Urban back in 1999 performing beside the location’s iconic guitar-shaped pool. Fun fact: the pool was built by country music icon Webb Pierce.
At the time, Urban was only 32-years-old and was working hard to make a name form himself in Nashville after leaving Australia and exiting his stateside country band, The Ranch. The young guitar-slinger’s ambition brings us to his poolside performance during the annual Country Radio Seminar.

Also during this same year, Urban released his self-titled American debut album. The record was led by the number 18 single “It’s a Love Thing”, followed by the number-four “Your Everything”, which made him the first male New Zealand-born performer to reach the Top 10 on the US country charts.
In 2000, Urban would clench his very first No. 1 hit, “But for the Grace of God”, which would be quickly followed by a consecutive series of 10 singles that charted in the top three spots over the short span of five years. On top of that success, the rising star also won the ‘Top New Male Vocalist’ Award at the 2001 Academy of Country Music Awards and the 2001 Country Music Association’s Horizon Award.
Needless to say, Keith’s solo country music really took off after this Spence Manor appearance. Fast forward to present day and fans can next catch Keith performing alongside Carrie Underwood for their first-ever performance on any CMT stage at the 2017 CMT Music Awards. The program airs live from Nashville on June 7th at 8 p.m. ET/PT, don’t miss it!
