Country music entertainer Keith Urban is taking an alternative spin on a new version of his most recent music video for “The Fighter.”
The original video, which features dancer Lindsay Richardson dancing around the city between cut-ins of Keith Urban and Carie Underwood performing their duet, has been smoothed out into an interpretive storyline. The artsy and alternative style, though it is an unusual approach for your typical country music video, does an excellent job of making the video more story-like, and in turn more relatable.
Check out the dance-only version below:
Keith Urban’s inspiration for “The Fighter” was his wife, actress Nicole Kidman. As he recalled moments from the early phases of their their relationship, the song essentially wrote itself.
“It comes from a very real place. It’s a song about helping to heal and protect someone you love,” Urban states in a press release. It’s a song about reassurance that you’ll always be there to take the blows the world can throw.”
Through this dance-centered version, the central message of the song is really sent home with viewers! Dance is a universal language, and the use of it to deliver Urban’s message resonates deeply with any viewer, no matter their background. What’s even more unique about this video is that it was choreographed entirely by the stars of the video, both Richardson and her dance partner Lyle Beninga.
When telling fans about the making of the video, Keith Urban commented on how he and director John Urbano came to the decision to use dancers.
“John said, ‘I know this girl who dances, sort of street dancing,” Urban said. “I don’t even know what it is, but it was so good and John said ‘listen to the song and watch her dance at the same time’ and they just went together so incredibly well that we decided to put out a full ‘dancer’s version.’”

The Fighter Lyrics:
[Keith Urban:]
I know he hurt you
Made you scared of love, too scared to love
He didn’t deserve you
Cause your precious heart is a precious heart
He didn’t know what he had and I thank God, oh, oh, oh
And it’s gonna take just a little time
But you’re gonna see that I was born to love you
[Keith Urban & Carrie Underwood:]
What if I fall?
I won’t let you fall
What if I cry?
I’ll never make you cry
And if I get scared?
I’ll hold you tighter
When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter
What if I fall?
I won’t let you fall
What if I cry?
I promise I’ll never make you cry
And if I get scared?
I’ll hold you tighter
When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter
[Keith Urban:]
Look in the mirror
You’re beautiful, so beautiful
I’m here to remind you
You’re my only one, let me be the one
To heal all the pain that he put you through
It’s a love like you never knew
Just let me show you
[Keith Urban & Carrie Underwood:]
What if I fall?
I won’t let you fall
What if I cry?
I’ll never make you cry
And if I get scared?
I’ll hold you tighter
When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter
What if I fall?
I won’t let you fall
What if I cry?
I promise, I’ll never make you cry
And if I get scared?
I’ll hold you tighter
When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter
I wanna believe that you got me, baby
I swear I do from now until the next life
I wanna love, wanna give you all my heart
[Chorus – Keith Urban & Carrie Underwood:]
What if I fall?
I won’t let you fall
What if I cry?
I’ll never make you cry
And if I get scared?
I’ll hold you tighter
When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter
What if I fall?
I won’t let you fall
What if I cry?
I promise I’ll never make you cry
And if I get scared?
I’ll hold you tighter
When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter
What if I fall?
What if I cry?
And if I get scared?
I’ll hold you tighter
When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter
