Keith Urban has been a judge on American Idol for four seasons, but he is still on the fence about returning for next season.

Keith Urban’s possible return to American Idol has fans nervously awaiting his final decision, but the superstar doesn’t seem too worried about it.

In an interview with Lehigh Valley Music, Urban said that he is very grateful for the opportunity to join the judging panel again, but he isn’t sure if he will accept the offer yet. Though it may seem like a stressful decision to make, he is pretty laid back about the situation.

“There’s been talk about it, yeah, but I’m not quite sure,” Urban said. “There’s an enormous amount of moving parts on everybody’s side, I think, right now. If that happens, great. And if it doesn’t, no sweat.”

The country superstar is keeping himself busy with many other projects. He’s trying to record a new album, and he also has a fairly busy tour schedule. “I certainly got a full dance card,” he admits.

The popular singing competition has affected many people’s lives, including fellow country singer Carrie Underwood, who made her career from the show. Urban recognizes the impact that American Idol has had on his career, but more importantly, he recognizes the impact he’s had on contestants. “That’s what I really love, is the opportunity to work with a lot of these kids, cause I’ve been on that side of the desk, so I know what that’s like,” he said.

“I love the opportunity to try and give advice to someone that might be helpful, and particularly if it’s really honest advice, because so many kids, like me, come from small towns. But unlike me, I was very lucky to have people around me who were, like, ‘No, that’s just not good enough. No, you could do better.’ A lot of kids don’t have that. They just have family or friends that think everything they do is awesome,” Urban said. “You just need really honest people around you.”

Unfortunately, auditions for the show in Texas were canceled due to Hurricane Harvey. However, American Idol will return in spring 2018 on its new network, ABC. Katy Perry will join the show as a judge, and Ryan Seacrest will host the competition once again.
