This year, Kane Brown was honored to receive his first No. 1 single with "What Ifs" featuring Lauren Alaina. More on the song's creation here.

The Kane Brown Lauren Alaina What Ifs song collaboration was released in 2016.  Rising country star Kane Brown first met Lauren Alaina while attending middle school in Georgia. The pair were in the same choir class and eventually took off on their separate ways to chase their individual Nashville dreams.

Fortunately for country music fans, the pair reunited on Kane’s hit track track “What Ifs” and it became the male vocalist’s first No. 1 single. Recently the track’s songwriters, Jordan Schmidt, Matthew McGinn, and Kane Brown sat down with The Boot to discuss the creation of “What Ifs.”

“I think that this was the first song [the three of us] wrote together. Matt also cut my second singe, ‘Heaven.’ He’s been killing it with me. And obviously, Lauren and I have know each other forever. We went to school together. I don’t think [the songwriters] had ever heard her sing before we did ‘What Ifs” Brown explained.

Well, that was the funny party: We were writing, and I remember thinking, ‘Wouldn’t it be great if we had a female vocalist on this?’ Kane said, ‘Well, my friend’s really good. We could bring her in.’ I had no idea it was Lauren Alaina,” Schmidt added.

That’s certainly one impressive friend to bring in on the song! Obviously, the track went next-level and it’s easy to understand why it’s been so successful. Enjoy the official “What Ifs” music video starring the former classmates below!

Kane Brown Lauren Alaina What Ifs Lyrics

You say what if I hurt you, what if I leave you
What if I find somebody else and I don’t need you?
What if this goes south, what I mess you up?
You say what if I break your heart in two, then what?

Well I hear you girl, I feel you girl, but not so fast
Before you make your mind up, I gotta ask

What if I was made for you and you were made for me?
What if this is it, what if it’s meant to be
What if I ain’t one of them fools just playin’ some game?
What if I just pull you close, what if I lean in?
And the stars line up, and it’s our last first kiss
What if one of these days, baby, I go and change your name?
What if I loved all these what ifs away?

What if the sky falls
Or the sun stoops burnin’?
We could worry about them what ifs ’til the world stops turnin’?
Or I could kiss you (you should kiss me)
What if you liked it? (bet I’d like it)
Well we ain’t never gonna know unless we try it

What if I was made for you and you were made for me?
What if this is it, what if it’s meant to be?
What if I ain’t one of them fools just playin’ some game?
What if I just pull you close, what if I lean in?
And the stars line up, and it’s our last first kiss
What if one of these days baby, I go and change your name?
What if I loved all these what ifs away?
Awe yeah
C’mon

You say what if I hurt you, what if I leave you?
What if I find somebody else and I don’t need you?
Damn

What if I was made for you and you were made for me?
What if this is it, what if it’s meant to be?
What if I ain’t one of them fools just playin’ some game?
What if I just pull you close, what if I lean in?
And the stars line up, and it’s our last first kiss
What if one of these days baby, I go and change your name?
What if I loved all these what ifs away

Away (away)
What if
