Singers have a way of using their voice to create magic and tug at the heartstrings of their listeners in mere minutes. Country music star Kacey Musgraves accomplishes so much with her simple one minute and sixteen-second music video for her song “Mother.” The track is featured on her latest album, Golden Hour.

The video dropped on Mother’s Day and showcases Kacey giving a beautifully captivating performance while clips highlighting everyday moments fade in and out. At the conclusion of the visual story, Kacey’s mother Karen makes an appearance alongside her talented daughter.

Back in March, Kacey took to Instagram and called the track the shortest, but “maybe most meaningful” from her new album. “One summer night, surfing waves of LSD and feeling nostalgic for everywhere and everyone all at once, I got a text from my mom. It made me miss her. It made me think about her hands,” Kacey revealed.

“Hands that carry out the vision her imagination brings on canvas with her beloved paints and brushes. Hands that find treasure in found junk. Hands dirtied by the East Texas soil. Hands that held me,” Kacey continued. “And I found the thought of this cycle overwhelming, sad, and beautiful; me sitting there in Tennessee missing my mom in Texas who’s sitting there missing her mother who passed away several years ago. And it will go on and on. The tears were flowing and I wrote these words down and finished it the next day. Then sat by the piano while Ian played and just sang.”

Mother. The shortest song on the album and maybe the most meaningful. One summer night, surfing waves of LSD and feeling nostalgic for everywhere and everyone all at once, I got a text from my mom. It made me miss her. It made me think about her hands. Hands that carry out the vision her imagination brings to canvas with her beloved paints and brushes. Hands that find treasure in found junk. And it will go on and on. The tears were flowing. Wrote these words down and finished it the next day. Then sat by the piano while Ian played and just sang. Mother. The sentimental lyrics to “Mother” are:

Bursting with empathy, I’m feeling everything
The weight of the world on my shoulders
Hope my tears don’t freak you out
They’re just kinda coming out
It’s the music in me and all of the colors
Wish we didn’t live, wish we didn’t live so far from each other
I’m just sitting here thinking ’bout the time that’s slipping
And missing my mother, mother
And she’s probably sitting there
Thinking ’bout the time that’s slipping
And missing her mother, mother
